Carlsbad Police Consider Expanding Drone System

Drones have been having success and supporting officers in multiple ways over the years. So much so that Carlsbad is now thinking about expanding their program to allow drones to be the first responder at the scene. Currently drones are deployed once an officer arrives at the scene. By allowing drones to be first responders they can take off from atop of buildings and begin transmitting footage before officers arrive. Drones currently help search for evidence, suspects, lost individuals, pinpoint traffic incidents and more. In fact in 2025 alone, the Carlsbad drones have been used for at least 123 hours to support officers.

The department is currently gathering information about needs and costs of implementing this system. Especially since the system has seen success in Chula Vista, where it takes a drone about 2 minutes to arrive at the scene on average compared to the 6 minutes on average it takes an officer.

Too Far From Work, Too Close to Traffic: Why San Diego’s Housing Isn’t Where the Jobs Are

If you’ve ever sat in bumper-to-bumper traffic on I-805, wondering why your 20-minute commute takes 50, you’re not alone—and it’s not your imagination. San Diego is building homes—nearly 100,000 permits were issued between 2018 and 2024. But here’s the catch: we’re not building them where they’re most needed.

The Problem: Jobs Are Here, Homes Are… Over There..

So what happens when tens of thousands of people work in a place they can’t afford to live in?

They drive. A lot.

The Roosevelt is Coming to Carlsbad Village

Carlsbad City Council approved the mixed-use Roosevelt project this past Tuesday with a 4-1 vote. The Roosevelt will be bringing 23 apartments and about 5,400 square feet of retail space to the Village area on Roosevelt Street.  This project is led by Carlsbad’s own real estate development firm Fabric Investments. This project hopes to create a great open space to match the development that Carlsbad has been seeing. Not to mention, this new build will be right next to the new Michelin star restaurant, Lilo.

A Splashpad is Coming to Escondido

The long awaited splash pad will finally be under construction starting this fall and is set to open Spring 2026, just in time for summer. This $2.36 million dollar contract, for the city’s first splash pad, will be housed in Grove Park. The splash pad has been designed based on the input of over 2,000 residents. The best part? It will be split into two sections so kids of all ages, young and old, can all enjoy the newest addition to the park.
