Big things are coming to Westfield UTC. The University City mallās 70,000-square-foot luxury expansion is set to begin its phased opening in early 2026, transforming the former Nordstrom space into one of Southern Californiaās premier designer destinations. Already home to HermĆØs, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co., and more, UTC will soon welcome heavy hitters like Restoration Hardware (RH), a full Chanel fashion boutique, Tom Ford, Carolina Herrera, plus two new restaurants along La Jolla Village Drive. With more luxury brands and even expanded valet service, the upgrade cements UTC as San Diegoās go-to hub for high-end shopping, dining, and lifestyle.

California Housing Costs Are Eating Incomes Alive

California housing isnāt just expensiveāitās devouring paychecks. Whether you rent or own, the numbers are brutal: 27% of renters and 15% of homeowners spend over half their income just keeping a roof overhead, the highest rates in the nation. Renters face soaring costsāmedian rent hit $2,104 in 2024, up 30% since 2019āwhile homeowners juggle $2,280 a month in mortgages, taxes, insurance, and fees, 70% above the U.S. average. The twist? For the very first time, Sea Shepherd is bringing its mission from the ocean to the table with the Sustainable Food Festival at Balboa Park (Presidents Way Lawn) on Saturday, Sept. 27, 11 AMā5 PM. Celebrate global flavors and eco-friendly foodways with 100+ local chefs, artisans, and nonprofits showcasing sustainable practices. Enjoy chef demos, panel discussions, live music, kid-friendly activities, and plenty of tastings. A portion of proceeds supports local nonprofits, and Sea Shepherdās San Diego volunteers will be on-site with campaign updates, merch, and ways to get involved in protecting our oceans.
