🎤🎨 Escondido's First-Ever Indigenous Arts & Culture Festival Is Here — and It’s a Must-Attend!

Mark your calendar for Saturday, April 19 — Escondido is making history with its first-ever Southern California Indigenous Culture & Art Festival at Grape Day Park! 🎉 This FREE family-friendly event celebrates the rich traditions, creativity, and future of Native communities like the Kumeyaay and Luiseño tribes.

Expect powerful storytelling from Indigenous leaders, a vibrant fashion show blending culture and style, a youth art contest, handmade art and jewelry from local Native artists, and delicious Indigenous eats like fry bread tacos.

Why it matters? This isn’t just a festival — it’s a moment of recognition, connection, and cultural pride. As Chair Stephen Cope puts it, "Native Americans have to tell their story to the world. I’m hoping this is the first step."

🚴‍♂️ Del Mar Cracks Down on E-Bike Chaos — Here’s What to Know/

Del Mar is officially joining its North County neighbors in saying enough is enough when it comes to out-of-control e-bike riding. On April 7, the City Council unanimously passed a new ordinance aimed at improving e-bike safety, protecting pedestrians, and giving law enforcement some much-needed tools.

Here’s the Breakdown:

  • E-bike riders must obey all traffic laws

  • Helmets are required (no exceptions)

  • Pedestrians get the right-of-way (especially on sidewalks)

  • E-bikes are banned in parks, preserves, and restricted trails

  • Sidewalk use rules are still being finalized

Instead of going straight to fines, first-time offenders will be offered a safety course—a smart move that emphasizes education over punishment.

Deputy Mayor Tracy Martinez summed it up: “This is long overdue.” Locals have voiced growing concerns about e-bikes weaving between roads, sidewalks, and bike paths like it’s a video game.

👀 What’s Next? The ordinance will return for a final vote on April 21 and, if passed, go into effect 30 days later.

So if you’re cruising Del Mar on an e-bike, it’s time to slow down, suit up, and ride responsibly.

🌿 Carlsbad Just Opened a New Community Garden — Here’s Why It’s a Big Deal

Carlsbad is digging into sustainability in a whole new way. Just in time for National Gardening Day, the city officially opened the Stagecoach Park Community Garden on April 14 — marking South Carlsbad’s first-ever community garden!

Located at 3420 Camino de los Coches, this once-unused maintenance yard has been transformed into a vibrant space for locals to plant, grow, and connect.

What’s in Bloom:

  • 35 raised garden beds built for water conservation and thriving plants

  • Tool storage and composting stations

  • A shared picnic area and info kiosk with gardening tips & events

The garden is a direct result of Carlsbad’s Parks & Rec Master Plan, where residents asked for more green spaces and community gathering spots. The city listened — and delivered a welcoming space where neighbors can grow food and friendships.

Want to get involved? You don’t have to have a garden plot to enjoy the perks. Join a free Grow Your Garden workshop at the Carlsbad Library (every 2nd Saturday) or grab seeds from the Seed Library to start your own veggie adventure at home.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just plant-curious, the Stagecoach Park Community Garden is open to all. Come get your hands dirty and help grow something great.
